Silent Night sheet music with lyrics

Silent Night is a German carol composed by Franz Gruber, with text by Josef Mohr. The German title is Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht. Legend tells us that Silent Night was composed because the organ in Saint Nicholas Church in Obendorf, Austria was broken (some say because a mouse chewed through the bellows), and they needed a song with guitar accompaniment for the Christmas Eve service in 1818. Gruber composed the beautiful melody to Silent Night, which was immediately well received. Legend also tells us that the organ tuner who came to repair the instrument was impressed with Silent Night and took a copy of it with him after fixing the church’s instrument. Supposedly, he gave it to a vocal group which helped spread the melody through Austria. Regardless of the circumstances of its composition, Silent Night became one of the most beloved Christmas carols in the world.
